Behind The Kaiju Cover of Anubis: Dog of Death #2

The cover for the second issue of Anubis: Dog of Death shows Anubis running through a city model, used as a set for a movie. But this image is actually an homage to a set used in the Japanese kaiju film Mothra from 1961.

I liked the idea of making it look like Anubis was this giant dog monster in a city. Fighting through it with what looks like some sort of Lovecraft monster. John even made the eyes of this Lovecraftian horror occupy the area Mothra is in in the original picture.

Mothra is a fictional monster that appeared in several Toho tokusatsu films. It’s an often recurring character in the Godzilla franchise.
