Between September 2005 and September 2006, singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton produced and released one song each week, in an attempt to keep himself occupied after having quit his job as a software programmer to focus on his music career.
Top 5 Songs from ‘MoS: Level 7’
Back in February, I shared my favorite song from each ‘Miracle of Sound’ album.
This proved to be very difficult, as there are so many great songs there!

5. Mother Of Flame
A song about one of my favorite ‘Game Of Thrones’ characters, Daenerys Targaryen.
The Unburnt, The Breaker of Chains and The Mother of Dragons!
4. Hell To Pay
I love this song for many of the same reasons I love DOOM, the game this song was based on.
3. Get The Gang Back
‘Overwatch’ has in many ways captured the spirit of good character-based cartoons like ‘The X-Men’, and this song would be a great theme-song if they ever were to make this an actual television program.
I would so watch that!
2. The Path
Another song based on ‘The Witcher 3’, this one focusing on the ‘Blood and Whine’ expansion pack, the end of Geralt’s journey in the games.
An ending I prefer over his ending in the books.

5 Great ‘Starbomb’ Songs
Starbomb is a musical-comedy group consisting of the two main hosts of the video game let’s play show ‘Game Grumps’, Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan, and Brian Wecht.
Before the three joined forces in 2013, Dan and Brian were already making music as the comedy band Ninja Sex Party.
When Arin started making music with them, they formed a separate band dedicated to making songs based on video game characters.
As we are closing in on the release of their third album, I figured I would share some of my favorite songs by them here.

The Hero of Rhyme
Link, the hero from the ‘Legend of Zelda’ video game series, has hung up his sword and Shield, as he feels his mad skills at rapping will be enough to defeat any foe.
The video was animated by Studio Yotta.
Glass Joe’s Title Fight
The weakest boxer from the 1984 arcade game ‘Punch-Out!!’ attempts to take on the strongest boxer in the same game, Mr. Sandman.
This video was collaboratively animated by a collection of Starbomb fans.
Regretroid
Samus, the hero of the Metroid game-series, is tired of being treated differently based on her gender.
Emily Hughes lends her voice to Samus, while Dan Avidan voices the Space Pirate dragon Kraid.
Crasher-Vania
The vampire killer Simon Belmont crashes Dracula’s cool monster party, completely ruining their evening.
The video was animated by Cas van de Pol.
The Simple Plot of Metal Gear Solid
A talk-show about simple plots in video games gets interrupted when Snake from ‘Metal Gear Solid’ shows up uninvited.
This video was also animated by Studio Yotta.

5. Don’t Say A Word
I have yet to play any games in the Metal Gear Solid series, so this song does not have any familiarity to something I like to help it ingratiate itself to me, like a lot of other songs by this artist.
I simply enjoy the song, nothing more to say than that.
4. Lady Of Worlds
In this song about The Witcher 3’s main female character Ciri, Gavin gives away most of the singing-duties to Ailin Kennedy.
As with all his other Witcher songs, this one is also great.
I look forward to CD PROJEKT RED!’s next game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, if only to hear the songs it will inspire Gavin Dunne to make.
3. Road Rage
I love the movie this song was based on, and I think it is a modern action-classic.
The song fits the movie’s focus on the metal of cars and bullets perfectly, while also touching on the heart of the film, motherhood.
Guns and gas and gods!
2. London Town
While I have played a lot of games in the Assassin’s Creed series, I have not played Syndicate, the game this song was based on.
One of the reasons that I really like this particular song is that I used to be a huge anglophile during my teens, probably helped on by my love for Doctor Who and Harry Potter.
And while I am not quite as crazy about Britain as I was back then, I still love it.

‘Cool Partrol’ is cool y’all!
The fourth Ninja Sex Party album (sixth with their cover albums) released last friday.
After listening to it on repeat well over ten times, I have a few thoughts I’d like to share.
1. Intro (Cool)
I figured that the best way to go about this is to just go through the whole track-list, and share my thought as we get to the most relevant track.
2. Cool Patrol
One of the most popular NSP-songs ever, and well deserved.
I can’t belive that it has been almost two years since the music video for this song was released, time surely must have absorbed the power of flight!
Previous albums have almost exclusively focused their comedy on Danny Sexbang’s carnal desires (and Ninja Brian’s bloodlust), but this album is in many ways much sweeter.
This first song on the album is the first indication that this album is not quite like the others, as the song focuses on the Cool Patrol helping a kid deal with his bullies, with the comedy coming from how bad and random their advice is.
3. Orgy for One
….and then this song immediately undercuts the point I was trying to make.
This song reminds me a lot of ‘Carol Brown’ by Flight Of The Conchords, and that is high praise.
4. Danny Don’t You Know
I covered this song extensively back when the music-video came out, and it remains my favorite.
It also supports my claim of how this is a sweeter album than what I’ve come to expect from NSP.
