Sunshine Blogger Award

I have been nominated by Lana Cole for this Sunshine Blogger Award!

It seems more like an interview than an award, but I’m sure I’m missing something 😛

Thanks Lana 😀

Here are the rules for being nominated…

  • Thank the blogger that nominated you in the post and link back to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you
  • Nominate 8-11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award Logo on your post and/or in your blog

Here are my answers to the questions Lana posed:

1. Twizzlers or Red Vines?  We don’t have those in Norway, so Seigmenn.

2. Favorite super hero? Why you got to do me like this? There are so many good ones!

It would probably be someone from Marvel, but narrowing it down to just one is pretty hard.

Part of what makes that world great is how different characters interact, anyway.

3. =&2=&

Damn, these are hard.

Probably not any I actually enjoy, as there is usually peril in those.

If I can cheat and go with a TV-show, I’ll pick ‘Pushing Daisies’.

Only almost entirely pleasant world that came to mind at the moment.

4. If you could travel in time, would you go to the future or the past and why? The past, as I would know what I was landing in. In the future, the spot you arrive might be incredible dangerous at that time. When going to the past, you could check for dangers before leaving.

My Gaming Backlog

After my post on why you should play games, Sammy and/or Sufi of The Cozy Home Chronicles asked me what my gaming backlog of unfinished games looked like.

I started writing a reply, but after 250 words I decided the topic deserved a full-fledged blog-post all to itself.

.

Gaming backlogs are a common problem in today’s society. They are much like that pile of books on your shelf that you have never gotten around to. You know that you should consume them at some point, but reading a book (or playing a game) is such a huge time-investment that many titles go un-read (or un-played) for years (or forever).

.

Turn back now, if you wish to avoid time-sinks!

For the rest, here is my gaming backlog:

Games I’m Playing

I am currently playing the Minerva’s Den dlc (downloadable content) for Bioshock 2, for the first time, so that I can listen to the new Watch Out For Fireballs podcast episode about it. After that I’ll play Thimbleweed Park and Transistor, for the same reason.

If you want to know more about WOFF, I wrote about them and my two other favorite podcasts here.

.

I have played 5 hours of Prey, and will go back to that once I finish the ones I am playing for the game-bookclub
I’m mostly finished with Heroes Of Might And Magic 3, need to retire that one soon. I played HOMM3 as a child, so this was just a nostalgia-dive for me.

.

Then I’m planning to try to Twitch-stream a short game, namely What Remains of Edith Finch.

Twitch is a platform where gamers can stream gameplay, audio and video to a live audience. I have never done it before, so I think it’s smart to start with a small game.

.

I also have The Black Watchmen, Uncharted 2-4, Fallout 1-2, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Bloodborne, Invisible Inc, DOOM, Wolfenstein: The New Order, XCOM 2, Dishonored 1-2, Hotline Miami 1-2, Dark Souls 3, The Sly Trilogy and probably some I have forgotten.

That comes to a total of

28 games to play on my own

Why You Should Play Games

For some gamers, it can be difficult to realize that not everyone understands their hobby. Gaming has grown so much in popularity that it can now safely be considered mainstream, so it is easy to overlook that there are still many people baffled by the popularity of this media.
So this article is for those of you who don’t quite know why you should play video games, but is interested in finding out.

Games as Literature – Alan Wake

I have previously expressed my love for video essays on YouTube, and I now have yet another great example in “Games as Lit. 101”.

Alan Wake is a game about creative creation, specifically writing.

Any writers who are reading this should definitely watch the video above, even if they have never played the game.

I loved the game when it first came out, but I feel like

the subject-matter hits closer to home now that I have started intentionally writing

The Best ‘Miracle Of Sound’ Songs

I recently rediscovered one of my favorite musicians, Gavin Dunne, aka Miracle Of Sound.

.

I usually spend my listening-time on podcasts, but when I am in the mood for music, I like stuff that has lyrics worth paying attention to.

That often means comedy or musicals (e.g. Hamilton), but Miracle Of Sound also fits in that category.

Gavin Dunne often takes a video game, movie or tv-show, and makes a song based on it. The lyrics always reflects the events and spirit present in the works he draws on, in a very interesting way.

I like all his music, but I love the songs based on something I am familiar with the most, as those hit me in a way that the ones based on works I don’t know could not.

.

I have here tried to find my favorite song out of each of his main albums (the ones named “Level #”), while also trying to keep my choices as diverse as his various music styles.

If you like this stuff, you can buy his albums here!

Here goes!

.

Level 1: Sovngarde Song

“Level 1” has the most tracks out of all of these albums, so this was a very hard choice to make. ‘Sovngarde Song’ presents the awesomeness that is Skyrim, the fifth Elder Scrolls game.

This is a more recent remaster, but it is still the same song, so I felt that would be ok.

Top 10 Songs from Level 1

.

Level 2: Take It Back!

This was a song he got to make as promotion for Mass Effect 3, back before that game came out.

Such a good war-anthem, pumping you up to reclaim Earth from The Reapers!

Top 5 Songs from Level 2

.

Level 3: Dream Of The Sky

Listening to this song again is what gave me the idea to write this whole thing.

The song has so many aspects, just like Bioshock Infinite itself!

Top 5 Songs from Level 3

.

Level 4: Forever Blue

Both a deep dive into the psychology of the main character of Breaking Bad, Walter White, AND a pun on the color of the meth he makes.

Good stuff!

My 3 Favorite Podcasts

When I am doing menial labor, at work or at home, or just during my commute, I like to distract myself from the boredom by listening to funny and interesting podcasts.

Cleaning the bathroom can go from feeling like a drain on your life, to becoming a fun activity where you can laugh and learn.

Here are my three favorite podcasts right now!

Hello Internet

Hello Internet is in the “=&0=&“-category of podcasts.

The YouTubers =&1=& and =&2=& talk about their profession, recent news, their interests, their lives and things that annoy them.

The interplay between these =&3=&, always makes for an entertaining listen.

=&4=& is an American expat living in England. He is an introvert, and is sometimes awkward around people he does not know, and he works mostly alone. He uses a very long time to perfect his videos, resulting in a very low amount of output. He is also the co-host of Cortex, a podcast about working efficiently as a self-employed creator. He wants to be left alone, so he tries to hide his face from the public to avoid being recognised on the street. He is sometimes =&5=&

=&6=& is an Australian expat living in England. He is an extrovert, often making videos with other people. He has a bunch of YouTube-channels, and he uploads new videos very often. He is also the co-host of The Unmade Podcast, which is about different ideas for podcasts that he and the other host (Tim) have had, but will never make. He wants to receive the respect he deserves, and he has been known to invent new words and concepts that are sometimes adopted by the general public. He is sometimes =&7=& Continue Reading →
