InterRail 2010 – Part 4: Amsterdam’s Cheese

After my little stop in Köln I had finally arrived in Amsterdam, late that same evening.

I had plans to meet two of the guys I served with during my year in the Norwegian Airforce, as they were planing on traveling there to attend an A-ha concert.

Why they decided to travel all the way from Norway to the Netherlands to see a Norwegian band perform, I’ll never know. But I decided to attend the concert aswell, since I was going to be there anyway.

They were arriving the day after I did, so

I had to find somewhere else to stay

The Comedy Song Debacle

Six years ago, on my first date with my girlfriend, she asked me a question.

“What kind of music do you listen to?”

This is a really simple question for most people, but not for me.

You see, I am not that into music.

I mean, I do really enjoy music, but I don’t have that many serious musicians that I listen to.

It is mostly comedy bands, and stuff like Miracle of Sound that has a lot of references to popular culture in it.

I am a bigger fan of comedy than I am of music.

My date was

Winnie-the-Doom

Years ago, I was enjoying my regular stroll though my local shopping-mall, when I suddenly saw it.

A Winnie-the-Pooh kiddie ride!

I had never seen it there before.

As I approached it, an ominous feeling crept up my spine. The air was filled with the otherworldly scent of rotten honey, and as we all know, honey doesn’t spoil.

Naturally, I jumped on!

I enjoyed a few moments of unaware bliss before it happened.

It seemed like a rift in the fabric of reality had opened, as the plastic ‘w

illy, nilly silly old bear’ was transformed into a living monstrous beast that was trying to kill me!

The Russo Brothers’ Community

I have been writing a lot about The Marvel Cinematic Universe lately. And some of the movies that I have had the most praise for have been ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

These two movies, alongside ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and the next 2019 Avengers film, were all directed by Anthony and Joseph Russo.

InterRail 2010 – Part 1: From Bergen to Berlin

I am continuing my project of curating my own Facebook photos, and this post is the first in a long series about an InterRail-trip I took during October in 2010.

I had just finished a year in the military, stationed quite a ways way outside of a city in the northern parts of Norway. It was cold, boring and mostly lonely.

Being stuck somewhere you don’t want to be, for the better parts of a year, really makes you want to spread your wings and experience the world.

Trading one location for many, if you like.

I started in my hometown of Bergen, Norway.

From there I travelled via Sweden and Denmark, down to Hamburg in Germany, where I stayed for the first night.

I only ever saw Hamburg in the dark, as I arrived quite late and left very early, but

the area around the train-station is one of the seedier places I have seen in my life

My 3 Favorite Podcasts

When I am doing menial labor, at work or at home, or just during my commute, I like to distract myself from the boredom by listening to funny and interesting podcasts.

Cleaning the bathroom can go from feeling like a drain on your life, to becoming a fun activity where you can laugh and learn.

Here are my three favorite podcasts right now!

Hello Internet

Hello Internet is in the “=&0=&“-category of podcasts.

The YouTubers =&1=& and =&2=& talk about their profession, recent news, their interests, their lives and things that annoy them.

The interplay between these =&3=&, always makes for an entertaining listen.

=&4=& is an American expat living in England. He is an introvert, and is sometimes awkward around people he does not know, and he works mostly alone. He uses a very long time to perfect his videos, resulting in a very low amount of output. He is also the co-host of Cortex, a podcast about working efficiently as a self-employed creator. He wants to be left alone, so he tries to hide his face from the public to avoid being recognised on the street. He is sometimes =&5=&

=&6=& is an Australian expat living in England. He is an extrovert, often making videos with other people. He has a bunch of YouTube-channels, and he uploads new videos very often. He is also the co-host of The Unmade Podcast, which is about different ideas for podcasts that he and the other host (Tim) have had, but will never make. He wants to receive the respect he deserves, and he has been known to invent new words and concepts that are sometimes adopted by the general public. He is sometimes =&7=& Continue Reading →

Technology – The Great Divide

My cousin snapped this awesome picture when we were helping my mother move last saturday.

Don’t worry, we were much more social the rest of the day 😉

At the end we even grabbed some take-away chinese food, and met my girlfriend at our apartment (she had been working up to that point) to eat and relax after all the work.

What makes the picture even more ironic is the fact that he took it with his own phone!

Three people, all in the same room, doing three widely different things with their phones, instead of interacting. Continue Reading →

Groundhog Day

It is February 2nd, so I sort of had to write this!

I was recently invited to take part in a time-travel movie blogathon, hosted by Silver Screenings and Wide Screen World.

The idea is that each person involved will write a blog-post about a movie that features time-travel in some way.

I immediately thought of making a combined post about Groundhog Day and Source Code.

But then I went on Twitter, figured out that the real Groundhog Day is actually today, and here we are.

So my entry to the blogathon will just be Source Code by itself.

Bill Murray is an asshole!

In the movie at least, I’ve heard he is great in real life!

He plays a TV weatherman named Phil Connors, on an assignment to make a segment about the Punxsutawney groundhog (also named Phil).

There is a real-life “belief” that if Phil (the groundhog) sees his own shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. Due to it being February 2nd, he almost always sees his shadow.

Phil (the human) shoots the segment, while treating his coworkers and the entire town of Punxsutawney like crap. He then goes to bed. The next day, it is the same day. He is stuck in a time-loop, and cannot leave the town.

At first he takes advantage of the situation, doing whatever he wants, still thinking only of himself. But after many of these same days, he gets so depressed that he kills himself several times. But he just awakens in his bed, the same day every time.

After some time he starts to improve himself, noticing other peoples problems and helping them with his “powers”. He also falls in love with his female coworker, Rita.

With a combination of his self-improvement and knowing all about her from “using his powers”, he wins her hearth. The next day, it is the next day!

I think

the time travel in this movie is a metaphor for being in a rut
