After my post on why you should play games, Sammy and/or Sufi of The Cozy Home Chronicles asked me what my gaming backlog of unfinished games looked like.
I started writing a reply, but after 250 words I decided the topic deserved a full-fledged blog-post all to itself.
.
Gaming backlogs are a common problem in today’s society. They are much like that pile of books on your shelf that you have never gotten around to. You know that you should consume them at some point, but reading a book (or playing a game) is such a huge time-investment that many titles go un-read (or un-played) for years (or forever).
.
Turn back now, if you wish to avoid time-sinks!
For the rest, here is my gaming backlog:

Games I’m Playing
I am currently playing the Minerva’s Den dlc (downloadable content) for Bioshock 2, for the first time, so that I can listen to the new Watch Out For Fireballs podcast episode about it. After that I’ll play Thimbleweed Park and Transistor, for the same reason.
If you want to know more about WOFF, I wrote about them and my two other favorite podcasts here.
.
I have played 5 hours of Prey, and will go back to that once I finish the ones I am playing for the game-bookclub
I’m mostly finished with Heroes Of Might And Magic 3, need to retire that one soon. I played HOMM3 as a child, so this was just a nostalgia-dive for me.
.
Then I’m planning to try to Twitch-stream a short game, namely What Remains of Edith Finch.
Twitch is a platform where gamers can stream gameplay, audio and video to a live audience. I have never done it before, so I think it’s smart to start with a small game.
.
I also have The Black Watchmen, Uncharted 2-4, Fallout 1-2, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Bloodborne, Invisible Inc, DOOM, Wolfenstein: The New Order, XCOM 2, Dishonored 1-2, Hotline Miami 1-2, Dark Souls 3, The Sly Trilogy and probably some I have forgotten.
That comes to a total of 28 games to play on my own, most of which are first-time plays.

Games We’re Playing
All the games I have mentioned up until now have been my own lonesome backlog, but me and my girlfriend also have to finish up Mario Odyssey, plus most of the games on the Nintendo Classic Mini SNES (which includes 21 games).
We also have to continue playing Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and Batman: The Telltale Series beyond episode 2.
.
At some point I also want to live-stream the neo-noir detective-game LA Noire with her. I played it when it first came out, but she has not. I think we could maybe get a good Mystery Science Theater 3000 sort of wibe out of that.
So if we are going to play all the games on the SNES Mini to completion (we are not), that comes to a total of 26 games to play with my girlfriend.

That is a grand total of 54 games!
And these are just the ones I already own, not nearly all the ones I want to play!
Better strap on my Power Gloves!!!
You need a couple of lifetimes to finish these! 😉
Yeah… :p
Thankfully some of them are much shorter than the others.
But then, some are longer..
I bet, If I didn’t have a “normal” life I would probably find plenty of time to game away my life.
Yeah, that is my problem aswell, work being the biggest problem.
But no kids yet, so I may be able to do it 😛
It’s always nice to see that I’m not the only one with games from the childhood on the backlog (still wanting to go back to HOMM2 and finally finish it). Maybe I’m not that crazy after all :^)
You shouldn’t measure your crazyness based on what I do 😉
Well, I’m skimming through your older posts as we speak, thinking “if he’s crazy, I wanna be the guy!”, so…
Haha, thanks :p
We nominated you for the sunshine blogger award. 😊✌🏻https://colecampfireblog.com/2018/04/19/sunshine-blogger-award/
Awesome, thanks 😀
It looks like you’re going to be busy! I didn’t realise they’d done a reboot of Prey, I played the original when it first came out but I don’t tend to game as much these days.
I never played the 2006 one, but the 2017 one is really good so far 🙂
Wow that’s alot. I wouldn’t even know where tp begin with a number that high.
Yeah :p
I’m starting with the shorter games, to cut down on the list quicker 🙂
The real question is how do you decide what it is you want to choose from the backlog? I have over 100 games on Steam and a few others but I play the same 5 games.
I tend to go for the shorter ones first, to get the list down quicker.
I rarely replay games, there is just not time if I am to try all the games I want to.
Other than that, I just play what I am the most in the mood for 🙂
Man that’s a big list of games to get through! Have you managed to cross many off since the time of writing?
I finished Minerva’s Den and Transistor some time ago, and I finished the campaign of DOOM 2016 yesterday.
Me and my girlfriend are also starting to close in on the end of Mario Odyssey.
I’ll probably make a few post about it as I cross off more of them 🙂
Maybe those posts will be called something like “My Backlog – 50 Games Left”.
My “to play” list is similarly massive! I’m not even sure where to start first… The Witcher 3 has definitely been sitting in my library for far too long along with Fallout 4(!!) 😮
They are both very good, but The Witcher 3 and its dlc deserves your immediate attention 🙂
If you skip stealth in dishonoured 1 you could finish the game quickly. Its also one of those games where its possible to finish it without spilling any blood. 2 ive not seen nor played yet
But is stealth worth skipping, or is it more fun that way?
I’ve heard 2 is just as good as 1 🙂
To me it feels as follows. You get all these amazing abilities for killing, yet they want you to stealth most of it cuase you get more “points” way at the end… the game itself has more than 1 ending tho so this could keep you bussy a while.
I heard both of them are very good, so spending time on them will probably be fun, so I’ll just do what comes naturally 🙂
