For some gamers, it can be difficult to realize that not everyone understands their hobby. Gaming has grown so much in popularity that it can now safely be considered mainstream, so it is easy to overlook that there are still many people baffled by the popularity of this media.
So this article is for those of you who don’t quite know why you should play video games, but is interested in finding out.
There are numerous physical and mental health benefits to gaming, but these are seldom on my mind when I decide to sit down with a game.
Instead, what motivates me is to experience other lands, other worlds, even other identities. All from the comfort of my own living-room.
Playing games scratches the same mental itch for me as books do.
Both make me feel like I am inhabiting another life, in a way movies do not.
Movies and television lets you see the experiences of other people – games and books lets you feel them.
So why not just stick to books? Interactivity, that’s why!
While a book can portray other people from within their very being, only games lets you be that person.
A tragic choice takes on another meaning when you are the one who has to make it.
A scary or safe environment feels even more so, when you are the one who are inhabiting it.
If you have not yet given gaming enough of a chance, I think you should.
You deserve to experience what it has to offer.
I really enjoy reading your posts. I can appreciate the escape quality that gaming and reading both possess. I’m not a gamer now that my older boys have moved out, but the way you describe it, I do feel like Im missing out on something. 🙂

If you have family who plays games, getting into them could be easier, as you can ask them for technical advice.
All the info anyone needs is available on Google, but it can be easier to just ask someone who already has the answers.

I have heard some really nice things about Horizon.
I have to finish a bunch of other great games I already own first, but hopefully I will get to that one at some point 🙂
What is your backlog looking like? 🙂 In the last few years there are a handful of games that I felt were noteworthy. Horizon Zero Dawn being my favorite, after it the Witcher 3. Play it for the story, I am not a multiplayer beyond COD.
The only multiplayer I have enjoyed (or even bothered with) in the last few years was in Titanfall 2.
The singleplayer is also really good, you should check it out if you have not already done so.

That is too funny. I forgot about Titanfall 2! I actually played it and the story mode was a favorite of mine, short but sweet, I was disappointed too finish it so quickly, hopefully they make another one, the gameplay and dynamics of the story were so much fun for once 🙂
I think it sold a bit poorly, and the studio was acquired by EA in December, so don’t hold your breath.
But hopefully someone will be inspired by their level-design at least.
I think a lot of the multiplayer players in that had not played the story, ‘cos I was wrecking shop, and I usually do pretty poorly in online games.
That is a bummer, I am not a fan of this big M&A mindset that is taking over these awesome studios making amazing games. sighs. But I did order the new God of War, sadly I am a sucker for these types of games. 🙂
