I have been spending some time lately setting up a Patreon-page for my upcoming comic that I mentioned here earlier. It is a lot of work figuring it all out, but I think it will be worth it.
Patreon is a crowdfunding website that lets people support creators who make cool stuff.
I have been signed up for a few years, mostly supporting some YouTubers I like.
I am one of many $1 supporters, which makes up the majority of the income for these full-time online entertainers.
I am making the Patreon-page more by necessity than anything else.
I have a very talented artist working on the art, but I can only afford to pay him for one page each month, so I am hoping we can garner enough interest to crowdfund our way to a quicker release-schedule than 1-page-a-month.
None of the funding we acquire will end up with me, at least not at this point. Maybe I’ll consider starting a Patreon for this blog at some point, but I don’t think I have nearly enough readers that anyone would be interested in donating toward my writing-career just yet.
The artist is currently working on the first few pages and the logo, but we have already worked together on some character concepts, so I know the art will be great.
And the story is really fun, even if I do say so myself.
So I do think there will be people interested in the comic, but reaching those people is another matter.
I’ll announce it here as soon as the comic is ready to launch!

Wish you luck in your comic success. I took the plunge to Patreon yesterday with my web novel The Red Lands. The response was good, but not overwhelming as such. Not that I expected lots of patreons knocking since I had no idea how to attract them. Look forward to seeing your artwork.

I expect gaining followers there will be a slow climb.
I’m going to post content from the comic on places like Imgur and Reddit, with the URL to the patreon stamped at the bottom of the image.
That is something you could try, if you have not already 🙂
You could try to make a nice layout with an excerpts from the novel, then post that in relevant places online.

Thanks for the advice. Its hard in Patreon to actually get recommendations or links from other creators. I think I will do as you said in wordpress to help build my reader base. Look forward to reading about your future success and experience.
